Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Lymphatic drainage massage is a therapeutic massage treatment. The massage uses very light pressure and long, gentle, rhythmic strokes to increase the flow of lymph and reduce toxins in your body.
The lymph system is part of your body’s immune system and helps fight infection. Lymph itself is a clear, slightly yellow fluid. It transports nutrients and oxygen to cells, collecting toxins on the way and flushing them out through the lymph nodes. You have around twice as many lymph vessels as blood vessels in your body. However, unlike blood, which is pumped around by your heart, the lymph system has no pump. The pressure from your blood vessels and movement from your muscles push the lymphatic fluid around.
Lymphatic Drainage is a massage technique that combines timing, pressure and direction to stimulate lymphatic circulation and unleash the body’s natural ability to rejuvenate and resist stress.
It employs mild mechanical stretching of connective tissue to facilitate decongestion of the lymphatic system.
Improved flow of regenerative fluid promotes the clearance of toxins and faster healing of damaged tissues .Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle, rhythmic hands on technique used to manually assist the movement of the lymphatic fluid. The therapist will start at a key lymph node locations and perform a rhythmic pumping action for a specific period of time. The vessels are then addressed and with a range of precise gentle rhythmic movements the lymph fluid is pumped towards the lymph nodes. The treatment is gentle and non-invasive. In basic terms it increases lymphatic flow. Harmful substances are removed from the tissues and neutralized in the lymph nodes, and the production of lymphocytes is stimulated, enhancing immune function. Lymphatic Drainage also stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system via the relaxation effect, reducing pain by sedating the sensory nerve endings and allowing tight muscles to relax.
